Dressage is the basic equestrian discipline based on perfect harmony between rider and horse. The Lipica Stud Farm follows the principles of classical dressage, which developed in the past centuries based on the training of horses for battle. For the rider in the battlefield a horse with a good command of pirouettes, lead changes, sidepasses and other elements were sometimes of vital importance. The fighting skills on specially trained horses was developed to the greatest extent in Spain. Hence the name “Spanish Riding School”.
The foundation of classical dressage is the natural ability of the animal. The basis and aim of classical dressage is the psychophysical and technical training of horse and rider to perform harmonised moves without force and at the highest level of concentration. All these movements are performed naturally by horses when they are free and with their herd.
Dressage as a competitive discipline emphasises above all a perfect harmonised development of psychophysical characteristics of a horse. In competitive dressage almost all elements of the classical school were kept, with an emphasis on beauty of movement and harmonious, almost unnoticeable influence of the rider.

Prerequisites
Please report to the entrance of the Lipica Stud Farm at least 15 minutes before the start of your ride.
Participants may weigh a maximum of 90 kilograms and be no more than 180 centimetres tall.
The minimum age of the participants of the riding programme is 12 years.
The riding and the preparation of the horse before, during, and after riding are at your own risk.
Persons under the age of 18 are the responsibility of their parent or guardian.
Wearing a helmet is mandatory throughout the programme.
A back protector is required for persons under the age of 15.
If 2 people want to participate in the programme, prior riding experience is required.*
Participants are required to follow the instructions of the Lipica Stud Farm staff.
Please keep in mind that we are working with animals, and therefore, to ensure that the needs of both the rider and the horse are met, the length of the programme may vary. This may also be affected by the preparation time between individual lessons.
