These are beach rides for horse lovers with a bit of riding experience. Wonderfully spirited monts, most of them stallions, will take you through olive groves and ancient villages to the white sand beaches of Flamingo Island. There you can wade through water and even swim with your horses who love a refreshing dip in the clear waters of the Mediterranean. A photoshoot for professional images of these unforgettable moments is also on the menu as well as horse-photography holidays for amateur or even pro-photographers.
Djerba, off the mediterreanean coast of Tunisia is known for its splendid beaches and its picturesque whitewashed towns influenced by Berber, Arab, Jewish and African cultures. It is a prized tourist destination in North Africa, inhabited by an eclectic mix of local tunisians, expats and visitors. It’s climate, dry and warm in the summer and mild in the winter make it a perfect destination for horseback riding all year.
One of the special things about Zitouna Stables is how much they care about their horses’ wellbeing. Most have been bought young and started under saddle at the Stables once fully developed both physically and mentally . Even if they are stallions, they are offered a social life with plenty of playtime in their paddocks. That makes them relaxed and friendly, searching for human contact. They are kept barefoot and ridden in well fitting english western, treeless or endurance saddles. Their training focuses on soft and relaxed responsiveness for the enjoyment of the riders who should be experienced and weigh under 85kg.
Two bungalows built in traditional Djerbian style make it possible to spend a vacation directly at the ranch. Both are equipped with a living room, kitchen, air conditioning and bathroom. There is also a small round pool and nice gardens. All accommodations have their own private terrace from which you can watch the stallions at play in their paddocks. An ideal vantage point for any horselover!
There are plenty other things to do on Djerba: diving and boat trips to spot wild dolphins, but also a visit to one of the islands villages or cities or even a desert excursion.. Ask the staff at the stables, they will gladly help you organize all your activities.
