BECOME ONE WITH NATURE ON A MEMORABLE SAFARI TRAIL

Thoroughbred Arabian Horses

Personally chosen and schooled by Alison herself, the Zambezi horses are ready to help you have an unforgettable experience! Mainly Thoroughbreds, Arabians and Anglo Arabs, the mounts are bought as foals and raised in an environment that allows them to thrive! All the horses are fed a closely monitored diet to ensure that they are receiving all the proper nutrients needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle! Occasionally Alison's mounts will go on to become successful Polo ponies.Or in the case of some older steeds, go on to teach children the joys of horseback riding!

Anti-poaching Operations

Zambezi Horse Safaris is also a proud part of anti-poaching operations in Victoria Falls. Alison and her team play a massive role in wildlife conservation and are adamant about the well being of the animals found in the area. They are constantly patrolling areas that are not accessible by road or on foot, and tend to injured animals that may have been caught in traps or snares. There are daily logs made of the patrols and of their spending so that donors to the cause can see exactly where their money is going. By visiting Zambezi Horse Safaris, you are directly contributing to the protection of the wildlife of Victoria Falls! Alison and her team are also accepting donations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, more information and a link to their GoFundMe can be found on their site!

EXPLORE HWANGE NATIONAL PARK ON HORSEBACK

Types of Safari Trails

Zambezi Horse Safaris offers full day, half day as well as multi-day rides, depending on the expertise of the rider.

Explore the beautiful terrain surrounding the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls on horseback for an entirely unique experience. All the rides begin and end at the Zambezi stables on the outskirts of the town of Victoria Falls. You will ride through national park grounds, seeing all sorts of beautiful landscapes and wildlife. Along the way, you will also learn about the area, with lessons about trees, animals and local history! The terrain ranges from the banks of the Zambezi river to the sandy dunes of Kalahari sand. Even for the guides, it is an ever changing and unique experience every time they set out on a new adventure!

Multi-day rides:

Multi-day rides pose a bit of a challenge, and are only for experienced riders. Morning rides last between 2.5 and 3 hours, but there is also an extended ride option for 4.5 hours for more experienced riders. Experienced riders must be able to ride unassisted and should have mastered basic aids, be able to do a rising trot for stretches of at least 10 minutes at a time, be comfortable at all paces and able to gallop out of trouble, even at the end of a long day's ride. For every two hours of a ride there is a 10 minute walk so the rider and the horse can relax their muscles. Full day rides include picnic lunches and siesta time. Qualified and licensed guides will lead all trails and there will be a safety talk before each ride. The horses are the pride of Zambezi.

Short Rides for Beginners:

These short morning or afternoon trips, between 2.5 to 3 hours in total, provide novice/intermediate riders with an opportunity to enjoy the special experience of exploring the African Safari on horseback. Novice rides are for those with limited riding experience, or who have not ridden for some time, but should be reasonably fit. At the beginning of the activity the rider’s riding ability will be assessed and they are given support and guidance as necessary. Guides accompanying the ride will assist throughout but clients will have to control their own horses. For those who have done some riding there will be opportunities to trot, or even canter, but only if they are proficient enough to do so. The horses used on a novice ride are quiet and shorter distances are covered.
