Our mission at Two Hearts Therapy is simple: to provide therapy, differently. Our team goes above and beyond to cater to each client's specific needs. Through open communication and exceptional service, we hope you’ll find what you’re looking for.
Our clients love working outdoors and with the animals. Not all children work well indoors, and some of us just love horses.
Equine Facilitated Occupational Therapy can bring fun and learning together. While still remaining true to Occupational Therapy structures and practices, we facilitate learning journeys with our beautiful horses.
Since we began in 2018, Two Hearts Therapy has been known for exceptional allied health services. Our passion for animals drew us towards a different approach to therapy.
Our founders, Cassie Allison and Bethany van Barneveld were inspired to start a private practice free from clinical walls, at Two Hearts Therapy you can get your hands dirty with a smile on your face. We love our beautiful Mount Cotton farm, the quiet of the surrounding conservation land and have therapists that care. Allow yourself or your child to embrace the outdoors and grow with the support of a caring and safe environment.
If there is something you need or want to do, OT’s help you work out the best way you can achieve these goals. For Equine Facilitated Therapy, we typically work on areas such as;
- Emotional self regulation
- Social Skills
- Executive functioning
- Upper limb co-ordination (bi-manual skills)
- Core strength
- Anxiety
When combined, the development of these skills can have a positive impact on ones ability to perform their activities of daily living.
Each session will run for an hour. Your first session will be a meet and greet, where we will get to know each other, fill in necessary paperwork and meet the horses so you are comfortable for your first therapy session.
While in Equine Facilitated Therapy, you may occasionally have ridden activities, the function of the horse is to be an active and engage-able partner within your therapy journey rather than a mobility facilitator. We find for our targeted areas there is a wider scope of learnings that can occur through handling and engaging with the horse, with just as much fun.
