Draghunting is a traditional cultural experience that involves following hounds cross country on horseback with lots of fences to jump on the way. In your draghunt, a pack of hounds will follow an artificial scent and you will follow on horseback. Nothing is chased and nothing is caught in this experience - it’s just for fun!
To prepare, you’ll have to go through an assessment ride and as many cross country schooling lessons as it will take. On the day of the hunt, you can choose a more tame pace with more trots and canters than gallops or go all out and jump all the jumps! However, to participate even in the cross country schooling experience, you must already be able to trot, gallop and canter in open country and be able to jump fences 2-3 feet high. Even if the horses are seasoned pros, this is not for the faint of heart, the unfit or the unprepared.
