For over 40 years, the Rabouan Family has been warmly welcoming riders at this child and horse-centered place. The Club Hippique et Poney Club de la Forêt de Moulière is nestled in a French village at the edge of one of the largest Forests in France. Children and adults practice independence and responsibility through horsemanship, freedom of choice, and constant contact with nature in a supportive environment.
In a completely renovated old farmhouse, the rooms and dormitories, as well as the dining room create an atmosphere of authenticity, comfort and quality. This is a place where mindfulness and a trusting relationship with animals and people are key. Everything is geared towards educational experiences in a spirit of togetherness and sharing. The Club offers a wealth of facilities: 2 covered arenas, 3 outdoor rings, 2 round pens, an outdoor cross-country course as well as lots of trails in the surrounding countryside and forest.
Riders are allowed to choose from a wide array of more than 100 mounts to suit their taste and ability. From feisty Shetland ponies for the bravest youngsters, to more mellow ponies and horses for the less advanced riders, all the way to well-trained warmbloods suitable for jumping or dressage, they have them all. At Moulière, horses school riders as much as the other way around! The daily schedule follows that of the animals and riders are in charge of caring for their suitably sized mounts. They can pick them up at pasture, groom, tack-up, ride and feed them. Of course, help is available: for every 8 children, there is one director and a licensed and motivated adult counselor. Every day, there are several riding activities to choose from: jumping, dressage, vaulting, cross-country, pony games, Icelandic riding (Tōlt), long reining from the ground, natural horsemanship, organization of a public equestrian performance (for those who stay 2 weeks) and even training of young ponies. For the more goal-oriented riders, there is the possibility to pass the internationally renowned (and Cavago approved) French “Galop” exams (levels 1-7) for a small extra fee.
The youngest of the young also have access to wonderful experiences with horses at Moulière. Here, children as young as 1 year old can go way beyond traditional pony rides. Josette Rabouan created her Baby Riders program in 1988 and has been awarded multiple times for her innovative educational method. Music, movement, caring for, and relating to a pony are all part of this incredibly rewarding equation. Olivier Rabouan’s Natural Riding sessions for adults are also quite something: You may very well find yourself cantering in the middle of Moulière’s herd of horses, with your eyes closed and just a lead rope (and a mane!) to hold on to and feel perfectly safe and at peace doing it (that is if you chose to go all the way, which is in no way necessary to immensely enjoy the program). Experience of a lifetime!
Good healthy French food served buffet-style, creativity and family are also part of the mix. Every day ends with a cultural activity such as dance, storytelling, music, debate, equine studies or slideshows. Horse happiness, new friendships and evenings together make for unforgettable memories! At Cavago, we think this must be heaven!
