This tour will run near the northern border between Portugal and Spain, inside Peneda-Gerês National Park between April to November. As a UNESCO biosphere reserve, this region is distant from the usual tourist getaways. You still can find oxen pulling the plough or the local breed of Castro Laboreiro dogs guarding herds of cows.
The wild Garrano horses share the mountain with the Iberian wolf. Even though the wolf is a rare sight, the wild Garrano horses will often appear during the tour, to investigate who we are, and what are we doing in their territory.
Run by a family in love with horses, this tour will give you the chance to ride the friendly and beautiful Lusitano horses in mountain trails. Mainly in soft grass, these trails allow fast canters or simply a calm walking ride enjoying the stunning landscape. This tour is suitable for confident riders as well as expert riders.
Our base will be Ecotura Nature Resort, a hamlet from the early ’20s, now restored by our hosts. Surrounded by oak forest and with the river flowing nearby, these houses will allow you to enjoy your holidays like a retreat, within a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The dinners, served in the house, will be 3-course meals of traditional Portuguese cuisine. You will have the chance to taste a wonderful local cheese and drink “Alvarinho” wine -considered by international experts as one of the best white wines in the world. The lunches will be in nature enjoying a delightful picnic or in the local restaurants.
